Going Home Day and More Pics

We got home from the hospital today around 1:00. Because Jonathan was born just after midnight, we were able to stay an extra day, so we took advantage...after all we don't have a staffed nursery to drop Jonathan off in between the hours of 1 and 4 when he is awake and we want to sleep! We were ready to be home, although our stay went really well.
Our friend Lauren brought us a delicious dinner tonight! It was soooo nice to have a hot meal! We also came home to a stocked freezer, refrigerator, closet and dresser. My cousin Robyn and her husband Eric made meals and dropped off Alex's, their son's, clothes. Alex is just about a year older than Jonathan. Jonathan will wear the same size as Alex, just a year later. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!! Jonathan is fortunate to have twin cousins, Alex & Lauren, that live right in Raleigh. He can't wait to meet them!

Winston got to meet Jonathan today and it went very well! Winston even shared his favorite toy bone by leaving it with Jonathan on his car seat today.

Grandma & Grandpa Nobles moved to Apex from Buffalo to be with Jonathan. Here is the proud Grandpa!
It was actually nice to have the baby at Thanksgiving because everyone got the chance to meet him.

Jonathan Patrick Ashley

He have decided to name our son Jonathan Patrick Ashley. We have always liked the name Jonathan, which means "God has given." Our son is definitely from God and we are very thankful for him!
We had a hard time choosing a middle name. Patrick is after Becky's mom who is Patricia, though she goes by Pat. Nobles, Becky's maiden name, was in the running for middle names. However, we learned that Patrick means "noble," so we still feel as though the Nobles name was included. Attached is a picture of the proud grandma!
Finally, my sister's first name is Ashley. She is delighted that all of our children will be named after her! Below is a picture of Auntie Ashley with Baby Jonathan.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

We have a beautiful baby boy to be thankful for! Jonathan Ashley was born on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at 12:40 am. He weighed in at 8lbs. and 8 oz. and 20 inches long.
Labor and delivery was difficult. The pitocin was great at getting things going, but the epidural had a "hot spot," which is when one part of your body does not take the epidural. In this case, the entire right side didn't take! We were able to get that figured out and began pushing and made good progress. As Jonathan proceeded down the birth canal we found out he was looking in the wrong direction! Then it was time for assistance from the doctor with the vacuum. After two tries and an unhappy baby they decided to do the c-section. Unfortunately, with the way the epidural was not working and the fact they had to put Becky out, Nathan was unable to be there for the birth but he did get to spend some good father-son time while Becky recovered.
Jonathan is a good feeder so things are looking up.
Not to mention he is really cute...

40 Weeks!

We are officially 40 weeks pregnant today. Our appointment is scheduled for 9:00 tomorrow morning...
Hopefully, the next time you read we will have baby pics up!!!!

Just waiting...

Well, I am still pregnant and not having any contractions. We are ready to go...the bags are packed, the nursery is ready, lesson plans are done and I finished my grad school class!!! Now we are just waiting! We will probably be waiting until Tuesday at 9:00 when I am scheduled to be induced. We would rather not be induced, so pray that I would go into labor.
Nathan is good at staying busy and finding projects to complete. He is working on building some shelves in the closets.

Funny Things that My Students Say About Me Being Pregnant

I teach kindergarteners and first graders technology. (I also teach 3rd & 4th grade library, but they aren't nearly as funny as the younger ones!) Anyway, here are some of the things that they have said or asked me:
-Are you having a baby? (This is funny to hear in November because I have been their teacher since July.)
-Why is your belly so fat?
-When are you going to have the test that tells you if you are having a boy or girl?
-Are you going to have 2 babies? Your tummy is really big.
-My mom had a baby and she wasn't as big as you.
-One child asked me if I was having a baby and I said yes, but I didn't know if it was a boy or a girl. She said, "Wow, you are going to have 2 then?!??!!"
-What are you going to name your baby? You should name it __________ (whatever their name is).
-I ask them if they think it is a boy or girl and they always respond with whatever sex they are....the boys are sure it is a boy and vice versa.
-I used to get hugs from the students on their way out of the room. Now I get my belly rubbed or patted and a "Bye, Baby."
-In one first grade class, the teacher convinced the students that I had swallowed a basketball and that I give it a pump a day through my belly button. That explains why it gets bigger. The kids ask me about my ball every time they see me!

In their defense, they are obsessed with my belly, but it is right at their eye level. I guess it makes sense!

Baby Update!

There really isn't too much to share! We are still pregnant! We went to the Ob/Gyn today and he said that I am about 3 cm dilated which is where we were last week. The Dr. is hoping that we go into labor soon. He wants us to try all the "tricks of the trade" to get labor going. If we don't go into labor this week, we will be induced on Tuesday, November 20. He doesn't want the baby to get too big!

Winston

Winston is our Yorkie Poo. Let's just say he is my first baby. He is a jealous dog...if Nathan gives me a hug, Win goes crazy! If I hold a baby or give another dog attention, he goes nuts. We are wondering how the transition to have a baby in the house full time with Winston will go.
We have been working with him in hopes that he will be on his best behavior when the baby arrives. We have a spray bottle (Nathan purchased it, so it is really more like a super soaker) and Win gets a spray when he misbehaves (barking and licking are the top 2 issues). The first time we did it, he was angry with us for hours! Needless to say it has helped. We just hope it will continue after the arrival of our new little one.
